Introduction to Service
Label: Energy Rating Label
Executive body: states or regional governments of Australia
Executive category: mandatory comparison label
Australia's two largest states, New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria (Victoria) jointly proposed the implementation of an energy labeling system in the mid-1970s, but it was not until 1986 that the mandatory labeling system was implemented. Another five states and one territory agreed to implement the mandatory labeling system in 1992.In 2000, the mandatory labeling system was implemented nationwide.
The label is intended to help the consumers compare the energy consumption levels of products in the domestic market on a fair basis and encourage the manufacturers to improve the energy consumption performance of products. Energy Rating Label system has also adopted a self-declaration similar to CE mark of EU. But enterprises shall register the energy efficiency information of their products with the Australian Greenhouse Office. For the purpose of ensuring the accuracy of energy efficiency data declared by the manufacturer, the Australian government has implemented a government (national) testing program: electrical appliances purchased from retail channels are sent to accredited third-party laboratories for testing. If the test results show that the manufacturer has made a false statement, a series of sanctions will be imposed on it in accordance with the laws of each state, and the product registration will be canceled (the right of sales is canceled). Therefore, the initial inspection and testing fees shall be borne by the government, and any subsequent costs used to verify or overturn the initial testing results shall be borne by the supplier.
Energy Rating Label has the following characteristics:
a) Energy rating is an intuitive description of the energy efficiency of a model. The higher the rating is, the higher the energy efficiency is. The determination shall be carried out in accordance with the Australian energy consumption standards. And only if these specifications are met can the appliances be authorized the energy rating. For example, the energy efficiency of air conditioner is divided into six levels for Australian energy rating label. The higher the rating is, the higher the energy efficiency ratio is. The best electrical appliances sold in the Australian market are the 4th rating, and most products are between the 2nd to 3rd rating.
b) The energy consumption value indicates an estimate of the annual power consumption of a model based on the energy consumption test and typical usage information of this model.
