Introduction to Service
Label: EnerGuide
Executive body: Natural Resources Canada
Executive category: mandatory and voluntary comparison label
The management regulations of Canada are the Energy Efficiency Act and Energy Efficiency Regulations. Canada began to implement the energy efficiency label in 1976. Canada introduced the world's first refrigerator energy efficiency label, the EnerGuide, in May 1978. The logo is a mandatory comparison logo implemented by the Natural Resources Canada. According to the federal regulations, operators shall attach the EnerGuide labels on products to indicate the annual power consumption of a certain model with the arrow reflecting the comparative level of energy consumption among similar products. EnerGuide was launched according to Consumer Packaging and Labeling Act to encourage the consumers to purchase the energy-efficient household appliances and protect consumers from exaggerated statements by manufacturers and other merchants.
The label system was implemented on 1976, covering the products such as the dryer, washing machine, washer-dryer, dishwasher, stove (electrical), freezer, refrigerated freezer, room air conditioners, etc.
With the further development of the EnerGuide label system, the voluntary mark is added on the basis of a single mandatory label in the 1990s. The voluntary EnerGuide mark for printers was implemented in 1993, and the voluntary EnerGuide mark for air conditioners (cold central air-conditioning, heat pump and discrete) was implemented in 1998.
EnerGuide mark provides four major energy efficiency indicators of product: annual power consumption, energy efficiency level among similar products (the black triangle is closer to the left of gray thick line, the energy efficiency is better), model and product information.
