Background of ENERGY STAR®
In order to help the consumers to choose the more efficient electric and electrical appliances and to achieve the goal of environmental protection, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established the ENERGY STAR® program in the year of 1992. The products with ENERGY STAR® label should comply with the energy efficiency requirement set up by the Department of Energy (DOE) and EPA. The consumers of U.S. will choose the energy saving products mainly based on this label. At the same time, according to relevant federal decree, the U.S. government will give priority to purchase the products with the ENERGY STAR® label. Now, the ENERGY STAR® program has become one of the most acceptable energy efficiency label systems in the U.S. market.
New regulation for ENERGY STAR®
According to the new regulation for ENERGY STAR® which began in 1992, those electric and electrical appliances which complied with the energy efficiency requirement set up by DOE and EPA could put on the ENERGY STAR® label voluntarily after registered with EPA. Testing and confirmation of a third party testing laboratory were not needed.
In the beginning of 2010, EPA, together with DOE, has issued the new regulation for ENERGY STAR® program: From the 1st of Jan. of 2011, the manufacturers who apply for the ENERGY STAR® label should submit the certificate and test report issued by an accredited certification body and testing laboratory to EPA. Detailed testing data required by relevant product specification and standard should be included in the test report.
